In the heart of August 2023, something remarkable unfolded at Ascent2aCure’s inaugural camp for children with Juvenile Myositis (JM). Amidst the laughter and shared experiences, a special moment captured the essence of our mission – thanks to the empowering words of Matt Scoletti.
In a gathering filled with courage and hope, Matt stood before 14 families, each navigating the challenges of JM. He led the children in a powerful chant, a mantra of resilience: “I will not quit on myself… I will not quit on my health… I will not quit on my family.” His voice, firm with conviction, echoed through the camp, igniting a fire of determination in every heart.
But it was more than just words. As the volume rose, “I will never give up” became not just a statement, but a pledge – a shared promise among these young warriors. In that moment, every child, every parent felt a surge of strength and unity. Tears of hope and pride glistened in the eyes of many parents, witnessing their children embrace a newfound sense of empowerment.
This was not just a motivational speech. It was a transformational experience that transcended the boundaries of our camp. It was a reminder to these brave souls that they are not alone, that their struggles are shared and their spirits unbreakable.
Ryan and Natalia, two of our inspiring campers, exemplify the power of connection and support. Their bond, forged through shared experiences and heartfelt encouragement on tough IVIG infusion days, is a testament to the profound impact Ascent2aCure aims to amplify.
As we look towards hosting 30 families in 2024, Matt Scoletti’s words continue to resonate with us. We are reminded that while we cannot change the fact that these children have JM, we can profoundly alter how they feel about it.
