A Moment of Unyielding Inspiration: Reflections on Ascent2aCure’s Camp Journey
In August 2023, Ascent2aCure’s inaugural camp for children with Juvenile Myositis (JM) brought something truly remarkable to life. Amidst the joy and shared experiences, Matt Scoletti delivered a moment that captured the essence of our mission. Leading the children in a chant of resilience—“I will not quit on myself… I will not quit on my health… I will not quit on my family”—Matt’s empowering words echoed through the campgrounds, igniting a collective spirit of determination. That first camp laid the foundation for something extraordinary.
Fast forward to August 2024, and we’ve just wrapped up our second annual camp. This year, 30 families from across the country came together at Adventureland NY (Ring Homestead) for another unforgettable weekend. The camp was filled with adventure, laughter, and bonds that grew even deeper. From climbing rock walls and splashing in the swimming pool to sharing stories around the campfire with S’mores in hand, every moment was a testament to the strength of this incredible community.
The magic of camp was once again in the friendships formed. Just like the MessengerKids messages that started moments after the 2023 camp ended, this year’s attendees left with connections that will carry them through their journey with JM. Children supported one another with love and understanding, and parents found a network of families who truly understand their challenges and triumphs.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we celebrate the success of 2024, we’re thrilled to announce the dates for next year’s camp: August 8-10, 2025. This annual gathering has become a cornerstone of our mission to ensure no child with JM ever feels alone. With your continued support, we can make 2025 even more impactful, bringing new families into this growing community of strength and hope.
